1) ขั้นตอนผลิตม้วนเหล็ก หรือ Steel Coil ขั้นตอนนี้สมัยก่อนเมืองไทยไม่มีเทคโนโลยีการผลิตในเรื่องนี้ ส่วนใหญ่นำม้วนเหล็กเข้ามาจากต่างประเทศ ประเทศหลักๆก็คงเป็นประเทศญี่ปุ่น แต่ปัจจุบันนี้มีทั้งนำเข้าและก็ผลิตในประเทศผสมกันไป...หน้ากว้างของม้วนเหล็กส่วนใหญ่จะใช้ 3 ฟุต (914 มิลลิเมตร) และ 4 ฟุต ความหนาที่ใช้บ่อยๆได้แก่ 0.4,0.5,0.6,0.8,1.00 มิลลิเมตร...ม้วนเหล็กดังกล่าวผ่านการเคลือบมาอย่างดีด้วยวัสดุเคลือบที่ป้องกันการเกิดสนิมบนเหล็กแกนในสุด(Base Metal) และถ้าต้องการสีตามที่สถาปนิกต้องการในเรื่องความสวยงามก็จะมีม้วนเหล็กชนิดเคลือบสีให้เลือก...แต่ราคาก็จะแพงขึ้น ถ้าต้องนำไปใช้ในพื้นที่(zone)ที่มีสภาพอากาศที่ทำให้เกิดการกัดกร่อนสูงก็จะมีม้วนเหล็กสเปกสูงให้เลือกขึ้นไปอีก คุณสมบัติหลักของเหล็กม้วนประเภทนี้สังเกตได้จากภายนอก จะดัดโค้งงอง่ายแต่จะเหนียวเพื่อให้ง่ายต่อการขึ้นรูปนั่นเอง...คุณสมบัติทางวิศกรรมก่อนนำไปใช้ต้องปรึกษาผู้ผลิตก่อน...เพื่อจะได้วัสดุที่เหมาะกับโครงการนั้นๆ สเปกจะได้ไม่สูงหรือต่ำเกินไป...คุ้มค่ากับค่าใช้จ่ายที่ต้องจ่ายไป

2) ขั้นตอนของการขึ้นรูป หรือ Forming (ในขั้นตอนนี้ผู้ใช้สามารถสอบถามสเปกม้วนเหล็กก่อนได้เพื่อให้แน่ใจก่อนตัดสินใจสั่งขึ้นรูป) ปัจจุบันในเมืองไทยจะเป็นบริษัทขึ้นรูปเสียเป็นส่วนใหญ่...โดยนำเหล็กม้วนเข้ามาเก็บไว้ในโรงงานของตน...มีทั้งบริษัทเล็กไปจนถึงบริษัทใหญ่ๆ

กระบวนการรีดขึ้นรูปมี 2 กระบวนการคือ

เครื่องรีดหลังคาเมทัลชีท
2.1) รีดเย็น (Cold Forming Steel Sheet) จะใช้รีดแผ่นหลังคา(Roofing),ผนัง(Wall & Clading),พื้น(Flooring) เครื่องรีดจะค่อยๆขึ้นรูปตามความยาวของม้วนเหล็กจนกระทั่งได้รูปลอนตามต้องการ สามารถรีดความยาวได้ตามต้องการ แต่จะถูกจำกัดความยาวด้วยข้อจำกัดของการขนส่งและวิธีการติดตั้งซึ่งทำให้รีดยาวมากไม่ได้...ต้องตัดแผ่นทำให้เกิดรอยต่อตามความยาวของแผ่น ซึ่งต้องออกแบบรอยต่อให้ดีเพื่อป้องกันการรั่วซึมของน้ำฝน

2.2) พับ (Press Braking) การขึ้นรูปโดยวิธีพับนี้ส่วนใหญ่ใช้กับบัวหรือคิ้ว (Flashing) เช่น ครอบสันหลังคา (Ridge Covering),ครอบหน้าจั่ว (Gable Flashing),บัวชายล่างของผนัง (End-wall Flashing)...ฯลฯ

Sheet Metal ยังมีเรื่องงานวิศวกรรมเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องด้วย เช่นคุณสมบัติทางวิศวกรรมของหน้าตัด ซึ่งเป็นตัวกำหนดความแข็งแรงเพื่อนำไปคำนวณหาระยะห่างของแป หรือถ้าเป็นแผ่นพื้นก็สามารถคำนวณหาระยะห่างของคานได้...นอกจากนั้นก็ยังมีเรื่องของพื้นที่เกี่ยวข้องกับงานวิศวกรรมโดยตรงก็คือการนำไปใช้ในลักษณะของแบบหล่อคอนกรีต (Form-work) หรือใช้เป็นแผ่นพื้นเชิงประกอบรับแรงร่วมกับคอนกรีตที่เรียกว่า Composite Slab ในทางวิศกรรมต้องได้รับการออกแบบโดยวิศกรเพื่อความปลอดภัยขององค์อาคาร
